Meharry Medical College
Our Partnership
Dry January USA® has formed a groundbreaking partnership with Meharry Medical College, an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2022, Meharry Medical College became the official licensee of Dry January USA ® marking it as the first and only HBCU to lead this mission. This collaboration utilizes Meharry’s expertise in public health, healthcare education, and community outreach to amplify the message of Dry January and drive meaningful change nationwide. This significant partnership addresses the gap in alcohol research and representation in the United States. As the first and only HBCU to hold this title, Meharry Medical College is uniquely positioned to promote the Dry January USA® mission locally and nationally, bringing a fresh perspective to alcohol awareness and research.

Established in 1876, Meharry Medical College has been a renowned and historic HBCU at the forefront of healthcare education and research for over 140 years. As one of the nation’s oldest and largest private, independent, historically black academic health sciences centers, Meharry is dedicated to educating minority and other students to become highly qualified, compassionate physicians, dentists, researchers, and public health professionals. Meharry’s legacy and unwavering commitment to serving underrepresented communities make Meharry an ideal partner for the Dry January USA® initiative. Its partnership with Dry January USA® significantly brings diverse voices and experiences to the forefront of alcohol research and public health initiatives.
Impact
The partnership between Dry January USA® and Meharry Medical College has the potential to revolutionize the way we approach alcohol consumption and its associated health risks. By leveraging Meharry’s research capabilities, community outreach, and educational resources, Dry January USA® aims to empower individuals, promote healthier habits, and foster a greater understanding of the importance of maintaining a balanced relationship with alcohol.
Shared Goal
Our shared goal will be working over the next two years to educate Americans and activate the campaign in the United States. They will be asking Americans to provide feedback and to offer suggestions for how Dry January® USA and the Try Dry® app may eventually be better tailored to an American audience.
